Zebra-tailed lizard (Callisaurus draconoides)

Origin: Southwestern United States and Mexico

Sighted at: Pedernales Falls, Johnson City, TX

I went back to Pedernales Fall this weekend and saw a ton of reptiles, including this Zebra-tailed lizard: one of a pair that I spotted fighting!! Their tails are very sinuous, moving more like cats’ tails than like lizards’! The tail’s underside is striped black-and-white – hence, the name!
