Terrestrial Arboreal Alligator Lizard (Abronia graminea)
Origin: Eastern coast of Mexico
Sighted at: Dallas World Aquarium, Dallas, TX
This long-named specimen is one of many types of alligator lizards – lizards with thick, knobby hides that are reminiscent of alligator scales.
This particular alligator lizard species lives only in the forests of the eastern coast of Mexico. Deforestation has made it an endangered species, as it uses the bromeliads of the forests as its home.
