Painted Terrapin (Batagur borneoensis)

Origin: Southeast Asia
Sighted at: Fort Worth Zoo, Fort Worth, TX

This is one of the shots from Fort Worth Zoo’s “Museum of Living Art,” a state-of-the-art exhibit mostly devoted to reptiles and amphibians. One of the coolest features is this gigantic water tank that you can spy as you walk in (or from the Burger King on the other side) that’s filled to the brim with incredible turtles! Turtles are amazing!

Terrapins are turtles that live in freshwater environments. The painted terrapin, a critically endangered species, is known for its bright colors.
