Ornate Spiny-Tailed Lizard (Uromastyx ocellata ornata)

Origin: Egypt and the Arabian Peninsula
Sighted at: Texas Snake Farm, New Braunfels, Texas

The Ornate Spiny-Tailed Lizard – called so for its off-picture tail, which I can assure you was quite spiny – is also known as the Ornate Uromastyx. I’m not sure why folks say one over the other, but I have a suspicion that it has to do with the fact that Uromastyx doesn’t quite roll off the tongue all that well. It sounds like a word that only dragons use to talk to one another. Ornate spiny-tailed lizards are especially known for coming in a wide variety of colors.

I never figured out why this particular guy had so much electronic stuff in his pen. Maybe it’s a speaker system?
