Northern Caiman Lizard (Dracaena guianensis)
Origin: Sub-tropical and Tropical South America
Sighted at: Dallas World Aquarium, Dallas, TX
Today’s animal is an animal that I had never seen or heard of before laying eyes upon it this past Saturday! The Caiman lizard is a small, squat relative of the tegu that lives in the water. They can swim with the best of them, and eat primarily aquatic invertibrates.
They’re about the size of Florida iguanas or Gila monsters; this specimen was maybe about 4 feet long.
