Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger)

Origin: North America
Sighted at: Walnut Creek Park, Austin, TX

The fox squirrel is by far the most prevalent of the various squirrel species in Texas – and indeed, across most of America. A larger cousin to the grey squirrel, fox squirrels look very similar but have tinges of rust coloration in their fur, and are generally bravery (owing perhaps to their greater size) than grey squirrels.

This is the first good picture taken at a new off-leash dog park I’ve been going to, Walnut Creek Park. It’s a very large, very windy trail. Pullo likes it!
