Capybara (Hydrochoerus hydochaeris)
Origin: South America
Sighted at: Texas Snake Farm, New Braunfels, Texas
The capybara is the world’s largest rodent! It’s basically a gigantic guinea pig, and it’s amazing. These cute little guys ate right out of my hand, which amazes me for some reason, even though it really shouldn’t. Guinea pigs ain’t scared to eat stuff. They eat all the time.
There’s evidence of an extinct rodent from South America that lives several million years ago that weighed approximately a ton! That’s a really big rodent! I bet it ate all the time, too!
