Texas-Leaf Katydid (Paracyrtophyllus robustus)
Origin: North America
Sighted at: My apartment @ Hill Country, Austin, TX
More properly called the Truncated True Katydid, this female bug was sitting in my stairwell for most of the day. It’s quite large, and has a peculiar wide-legged stance. Katydids – a species of bug closely related to the cricket – come in many shapes and sizes in Texas. This particular species is apparently very specific to the Central Texas area.
