Japanese Spider Crab (Macrocheira kaempferi)
Sighted at: Dallas World Aquarium, Dallas, TX
Animal classification is kind of a pain. I had thought that I was organizing my animal categories by phylum, but I’m actually sort of using classes. But crustaceans are actually a subphylum of arthropods. I’m conflicted on how to proceed. I will probably just keep using layman’s terms for categories and not worrying too much about it.
The Japanese spider crab is the longest arthropod species in the world! It can reach up to 12 feet in length. It looks like a gigantic monster.
I have never eaten one, but I will, one day.
