Florida Horse Conch (Triplofusus giganteus)

Origin: Atlantic tropical reefs and shallow waters
Sighted at: The Mule Keys off the coast of the Florida Keys, Florida

This is another sea critter from my kayak trip.

Although it’s called a conch, the Horse Conch is actually a sea snail, not a conch! It can grow incredibly large – up to two feet long! I’m not clear at all why it’s named the Horse Conch, and can’t find any answers online – maybe it’s on account of its size?
