Laughing Gull (Leucophaeus atricilla)
Origin: American Coastlines
Sighted at: Big Coppitt Key, Florida
This is one of a couple dozen or so gulls that were very glad to eat some bread that I brought them on the morning after Christmas.
Laughing Gulls are a Key West mainstay, but their plumage during the winter looks very different than their mating-season summer plumage, which they wear when they’re further to the north. Winter gulls are dusky white and grey, while a summer gull has very dark grey feathers on their wings and head.
