Gray Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis)

Origin: North and Central America and Caribbean
Sighted at: Key West Botanical Garden, Key West, FL

This shot is from a return visit to the Botanical Gardens – this time, without 40 other bird enthusiasts and tourists huddled around me, making jokes about spotting the chickens that roam the island.

I’d never heard of the catbird family before, but apparently they’re a pervasive type of mimic bird, like grackles and mockingbirds!

This post marks the first time I’ve ever spelled “Caribbean” correctly on the first try. I did it!
