Black Vulture (Coragryps atratus)
My neighborhood is home to a number of big black vultures, and I’ve tried to photograph them before, but they’re very skittish creatures, and take off at the slightest provocation. I finally managed to sidle up to a couple yesterday evening, in between rainstorms.
Black vultures have an impressive wingspan. It’s a treat to see them flying over Walnut Creek, where they soar around in search of carrion or other easy prey!
